I was Mary Magdalene
She stood up on the stage of the old cinema, arms raised and tears running down her cheeks to say, "I don't want to be up here speaking , but God's Spirit told me to. You all know who I am. From the age of 12 I went down the wrong roads, smoking, drinking, having illicit relationships with men. I went from this village to the other, even overseas seeking pleasure. The whole of our village was talking about me.
But thank God, he found me, and at age 30 he saved me from the horrible life I was leading. He gave me life instead of shame, and hope and love instead of despair. Look what He has done for me! If He had not changed me I doubt I'd be alive today. But Jesus gave me new life and hope, and He wants to change you too. He wants to give you hope. Come to Him and be cleansed."
So Dani exhorted the villagers at the Easter Day meeting to turn to Jesus. She tearfully said over and over again that just as Jesus had renewed her, so he wanted to give everyone new life.
Our team has been deeply concerned for Dani, as her husband beats her a lot, and the locals don't seem to be able to do anything about it. The abuse incenses us. She says she stands it for the sake of their three year old son. They are squatters in an apartment and could be kicked out anytime. Her life is hard.
Hope in Jesus is very real to Dani.
Please pray for the safety of Dani and other women like her. Pray for a complete change of heart for the men who abuse them. Pray they will grow in faith in their Saviour.
