Meet the Burkina Faso team

Eileen Summerville

Eileen Summerville

I come from New Zealand and joined the team in 1973.  I have worked in several locations, Malba, Batie and Gaoua.  As a nurse I was initially involved in a medical ministry, but then branched out into evangelism, church planting and literacy work with the Birifor people group among other things.  I am the Director of the team here and live on the main mission centre in Gaoua.  My time is taken up with administration and various committees but I enjoy my regular preaching engagements and getting out to the surrounding churches.

Jeremy and Rachel Katie, Timmy and Toby Nash

The Nash FamilyWe came to Burkina Faso in July 1996. We are based in Legmoin and work mainly among the Dagari. Our ministry is church planting and we have seen a number of churches started and several pastors join us in the work. We use the Jesus film and other Christian films in evangelism within the whole EPE Church. We also have a Bible correspondence course ministry in about 15 primary schools and some secondary schools and Christian groups.

Sjon and Peggy van Ee

Sjon and Peggy van EeYaani, or hi, we are a Dutch family. Since June 1999 we have been in Burkina Faso working in the Batié area. Our daughter Annejoeke attends French school in Ouagadougou. We learnt one of the local languages Birifor, but also work in French depending on the people and activities.

Our ministry is partly evangelizing:

  • children, girls and boys clubs  and an English club
  • through friendship
  • by activities such as film, volleyball, library and reading room

and partly discipling:

  • through Bible studies with the women, youth and other groups
  • working with apprentices in building projects and car mechanics

Seraina Schmid

Serena SchmidI come from Switzerland.  After 20 years in Burkina Faso, I will be leaving the field in December 2009 because of health and family reasons. The last couple of years I have been involved in friendship evangelism among the Fulani in Sideradougou and surroundings. This unreached  nomadic people group is still very much on my heart and I pray for new workers who would continue this ministry.

Yoon Kyung Jang

Yoon Kyung JangI come from South Korea. I arrived in Burkina Faso in July 2007. I am living in Gaoua. I am learning one of local languages, Dioula, which many ethnic groups understand and is a trade language. I visit regularly the area where Muslims live and contact Muslim women to reach out to them. I manage the team guesthouse on the Gaoua centre.

Mina Savou

Mina SavouI come from the Fiji Islands and joined the team in September, 2002.  I am a children's worker and trainer for Sunday school teachers.   In the village of Tonkar I run a weekly children's club and also have contact with widows.  Last, but not least, I am involved in friendship evangelism with my Fulani friends.

Mark and Caroline Cocker

Mark and Caroline CockerMark is from the UK and Caroline from Burkina Faso. Our daughter Naomi is nearly six and full of life end energy!

We live and work in Banfora in the far south-west of BF near the border with Ivory Coast. We arrived in Burkina in Sept 2007 and we are still engaged in full time language study. We are learning Fulfulde the language of the Fulani people. Traditionally a nomadic people of herders, they have been settling in our region and very little missionary work is currently being done among them.

We feel that literacy centres are a strategic tool that God has given to us to reach the Fulani. We have already been able to open two centres in Loropeni and Lokosso and have been able to visit several others in the region around Banfora, where we have now formed many friendships.

Alice Boesch

Alice BoeschI come from Switzerland and first came to Burkina in 1983 to help for two years in medical work. In 1991 I returned as a long term worker, concentrating on women's ministry and later teaching at the French Bible School in Gaoua. I am currently based at Mangodara, near the Ivory Coast border, working alongside several national pastors.  The vision is to bring the Gospel to the mainly Muslim populations around. One project close to my heart is to start a small library with a reading room, to reach out to school children and other people in the area.
