The unreached of DR Congo
Despite the advances the gospel has made over the years, there remain pockets of unreached groups in the CECCA area. It is uncertain that they will be reached effectively or, in some cases, at all, without the stimulus of someone trained in cross-cultural ministry.

The two most prominent of these groups are the Pygmies and people of another world religion.

Pygmies

Long resistant to the gospel, Pygmies are now showing an amazing openness and responsiveness. At the same time, amongst the Bantu Africans, who have looked down upon the Pygmies, some evangelists have been reaching out to the Pygmies. A resistant and neglected group are now open and being reached. Pygmy culture is, however, quite different to Bantu culture. This is not always appreciated by the Bantu evangelist. No effort is made, for example, to learn the Pygmy language and culture. These are the same mistakes some early European missionaries made when they first went to Africa and Asia etc! A missionary with the right training and attitude could be a great help, in working alongside Bantu evangelists, sharing insights, teaching by example and counsel. The goal is to contextualise the gospel for Pygmies so that a church is formed which is both truly Pygmy and truly Christian.
